When Kate Bosworth arrived for the Melbourne Cup carnival in 2006 people were expecting the muscular star of Blue Crush and were greeted by a model-thin, softly spoken waif.

Bosworth was a picture of Great Gatsby glory, wearing a Colette Dinnigan white lace dress and black headpiece.
Fellow celebrities that year were the polite and professional Michael Vartan from Alias and Desperate Housewives supporting star Andrea Bowen.
Melbourne Cup Day is back at Flemington this year with up to 10,000 punters allowed back to the track. And already thereâs no shortage of colour and fashion at the famous track.

The sun was out and the famous roses in full bloom at Flemington for the 161st running of the Melbourne Cup as the first punters arrived at the track.
Many came on the train from Flinders Street but there were also stretch limousines pulling up and helicopters landing in a hint of the glamour of the spring racing carnival in previous years.

Patrons who were able to secure one of the 10,000 tickets available were well aware they were lucky to have snagged a trackside spot.
Charlotte Atkins, 22, and Max Poche, 23, stopped underneath the Flemington arch to pose for photographs as they entered the racecourse for Ms Atkinsâ first Melbourne Cup.

The couple flew down from Sydney for the race as Ms Atkinsâ parents have a horse running in the Cup, Sheâs Ideel.
Mr Poche said while favourite Incentivise would be hard to beat today, he would be having a bet each way on Sheâs Ideel.
âJust to get down and back on track after six months of lockdown is great,â Mr Poche said. âItâs a privilege to get in here and we know we are very lucky.â

Almandin took out the great race five years ago with Kerrin McEvoy aboard, delivering Lloyd Williams the fifth of his seven Melbourne Cups.
