SA lockdown looks set to end as planned after state records one new local COVID-19 case

South Australia will most likely end its week-long lockdown on time, Premier Steven Marshall says, after only one local COVID-19 case was reported on Monday.

The premier said the shutdown will end just after midnight on Wednesday morning provided there are no further "unlinked" coronavirus cases before then.

“Every indication is we will be moving out of the stay-at-home order at one minute past midnight tomorrow night,” Mr Marshall said on Monday.

He extended a “massive thank you” to the state's residents.

"I'm very proud of South Australia and I am very grateful to all South Australians for the way they have adhered to the restrictions that have been put in place," he said.

SA's one new COVID-19 case is a man in his 80s linked to the Modbury cluster.

A range of restrictions will remain when the lockdown lifts.

Masks will be mandatory in crowded and high-risk settings such as public transport and healthcare. The limit on household gatherings will be 10 people. For weddings and funerals, the number will be capped at 50 people.

More businesses will re-open but with COVID-19 restrictions.

The one person per four square metre rule will apply and people need to be seated when eating and drinking in hospitality venues. The ban remains on singing and dancing.

Gyms can re-open under the one person per eight square metre requirement. Schools can also re-open.

The seven-day lockdown was imposed at 6pm last Tuesday.

SA reported three new COVID-19 cases on Sunday but all were in quarantine.

The cluster in SA began with an 81-year-old man who arrived in Australia from Argentina and was quarantined in Sydney before travelling to Adelaide, where he tested positive.

Genomic testing has confirmed the man became infected while in Sydney, not while he was in Argentina.
